Simcoe secure WIPC25 Final spot

Sherwood Park, AB – August 8, 2025 – The 2025 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship semifinals delivered two fierce battles on Friday night in Sherwood Park, Alta, with both matches decided by the narrowest of margins.

League1 Ontario champion and competition debutant Simcoe Rovers FC edged League1 BC champion Altitude FC 1–0, while Ligue1 Québec champion CS Mont-Royal Outremont earned a comeback 2–1 win over League1 Alberta’s Calgary Blizzard SC to secure their second straight berth in the tournament final.

For Simcoe, Sunday’s final offers the chance to cap off a remarkable season by claiming their first-ever national title and becoming the first League1 Ontario team to lift the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship trophy. For CSMRO, it is an opportunity to finish the job they started last year, erase the sting of their 2024 final defeat, and affirm themselves as the top women’s side in the country.

Altitude FC 0 – 1 Simcoe County Rovers
The opening semifinal between Simcoe and Altitude featured two sides that, on paper, looked evenly matched, and the contest reflected that balance from the opening whistle.

Both teams arrived in Alberta as dominant forces in their respective leagues, with Altitude the first of the four provincial champions to book their ticket and Simcoe closing out their provincial title run by staving off tough competition from other worthy contends like North Toronto Nitros and NDC Ontario to earn its first regular season win.

The closest-contested League1 Ontario season made Rovers no stranger to slim margins, and they manage to find the edge once again on Friday night over Altitude.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute, courtesy of midfielder Teagan Handley from Kingsville, Ont. The Bishop’s University Gaiter delivered a perfectly-placed corner kick that bent inside the front post — her third goal of the season directly from a corner — to put Simcoe ahead.

The Rovers nearly doubled their advantage later in the half when referee Shaelyn Holdaway pointed to the penalty spot after a foul. Simcoe’s Ally Rowe unleashed a thunderous strike, but the ball rattled off the crossbar, bounced down, and stayed out.

Altitude pressed to come up with some, but between a first-half sub for one of the team’s top offensive threats, Jayda Thompson, and Simcoe’s firm defensive structure, couldn’t find a way through, officially ending League1 BC’s streak of winning the Women’s Inter-Provincial Champions at two years.

Sunday’s championship match at Emerald Hills Sports Park will now pit two in-form provincial champions brimming with confidence and looking to make history against each other, as Simcoe aiming for League1 Ontario’s first national crown, and CSMRO chasing the trophy that eluded them last year.
