Final: CS Mont-Royal Outremont 2-2 Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy (WFC win 3-2 on penalties)

Kaylee Hunter scored two goals in the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship Final to help Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy come from behind twice and retain their national title on penalties.

Determined displays from both sides in the 90 minutes led to the final being decided on spot-kicks. Despite semifinal hero Lea Palacio-Tellier saving two Whitecaps penalties from Hunter and Téa Mayson, CSMRO struck the post and the crossbar and saw a spot-kick parried away by Morgan McAslan, resulting in a Whitecaps victory.

CSMRO were underdogs heading into the tournament, but went ahead 22 minutes into the final through Anais Naila Oularbi, out-muscling her defender to direct a stretching volley past McAslan.

With 10 minutes to go in the first half, a Whitecaps player was brought down in the box and Hunter calmly dispatched the resulting penalty into the bottom corner, adding to her eight goals from League1 BC this season.

In the second-half, semifinal scorer Joëlle Gosselin netted her second goal of the competition for CSMRO, unleashing a powerful shot from the edge of the box that flashed across the goal and into the bottom corner. But the lead lasted for no more than five minutes, when the ball deflected to Hunter who curled home a first-time left-footed shot, rounding off a great team move from Whitecaps.

The match finished 2-2, with Whitecaps edging past CSMRO on penalties to become the first visiting team to win the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship. They have also continued their unbeaten season that saw them become League1 BC champions, and they take to the field again next week in the Concacaf W Champions Cup preliminary round.

Only two teams had stopped Whitecaps from winning in 90 minutes during the 2024 League1 BC season, and CSMRO can be very proud of their performance as they take home silver.

Third-place playoff: NDC Ontario 1-0 Calgary Blizzard

A fourth-minute goal from Adriana Bianchin was enough for NDC Ontario to defeat Calgary Blizzard in the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship third-place playoff.

NDC beat Calgary’s offside trap to find space on the right-hand side of the box, and Bryana Gaynor fired a first-time cross into Bianchin who tucked the ball home with a side-foot volley, handing the Ontario side the advantage with less than four minutes on the clock. It was Gaynor’s goal who gave NDC an early lead in Friday’s semifinal, but this time they held on for victory.

The League1 Ontario champions, who had won 15 of 18 games in the 2024 regular-season, were the dominant side when it comes to statistics. They had 11 shots and six on target, thwarting the Blizzard to just three attempts on goal and only one of which tested goalkeeper Noelle Henning.

In their attempts to force the game to penalties, Blizzard’s Mykena Walker received her second yellow card of the game after a late sliding tackle on Reese Kay, leaving her side with 10 players on the field in the final few minutes of the match.

NDC Ontario secured bronze in the first Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship in their home province, following up a nail-biting semifinal against CSMRO with a memorable victory. The Blizzard meanwhile can still return to Calgary with their heads held high as the inaugural League1 Alberta champions.
