Four League1 Canada Provincial Champions to meet in Hamilton, Ontario for 2024 Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship

Toronto, ON – (June 13, 2024) – League1 Canada today announced the 2024 iteration of the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, which will be held in Hamilton, Ont. in August and will, for the first time, see representatives from four League1 Canada provinces battle to be crowned champions of the women’s Pro-Am game in Canada.

The 2024 Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship will once again feature the winners of League1 Ontario, League1 BC and Ligue1 Québec. The winner of League1 Alberta, which joined the League1 Canada alliance in December 2023, will round out the four-team field for the first time this year.

“The Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship is the major highlight of the women’s soccer calendar in Canada,” said John Gibson, Interim General Manager, League1 Canada. “With increasing eyes on, and opportunity in, the sport, we are planning for the best championship weekend yet to showcase the strength of the women’s game in Canada today, as well as its huge potential for growth.”

The third iteration of the competition will be contested for a first time in Ontario, at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, home to four-time Canadian Premier League (CPL) champions Forge FC.

The semifinals will take place on Friday, Aug. 9 at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT and 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT, respectively. The third-place match will be played on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT, with the Championship Final to follow at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT. A draw will take place later this month to determine the semifinal matchups.

“Tim Hortons Field has been a regular stage for League1 Ontario matches in recent seasons, and we’re delighted to host the League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship in Hamilton in August,” said Nicole Demers, Vice President of Business Operations, Forge FC. “We’re excited to provide the community of Hamilton with the opportunity to come out and support players competing at the highest level of women’s soccer in Canada.”

The Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship launched in 2022 and marked an important step in League1 Canada’s mission to unify, elevate and expand Pro-Am soccer and grow the women’s game in Canada.

Each previous edition was won by a host team. A.S. Blainville came out on top in Québec in 2022, while the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy proved defiant in British Columbia in 2023. As winners of the 2023 Championship, Whitecaps FC Girls Elite will represent Canada at the Concacaf W Champions Cup later this summer. The squad will kick off preliminary round play when it visits Salvadoran side Alianza Women FC at Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador on Thursday, Aug. 15.

This year’s Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship will be played at an exciting time for soccer in the country, as Canada’s Women’s National Team looks to defend Olympic gold at Paris 2024. The Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 will be contested from July 25 to Aug. 10, with the Bronze Medal Match to be played on Friday, Aug. 9 and the Gold Medal Match to be contested on Saturday, Aug. 10. League1 Canada has deep ties to Canada’s Women’s National Team program, as several league alumni, most notably Vanessa Gilles, Evelyne Viens, Olivia Smith and Gabrielle Carle, have gone on to represent their country internationally at the senior and youth levels.

Individual match tickets for the 2024 Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship are now on sale starting at $20. Fans can also purchase a Weekend Ticket Pack starting at $35. Each Weekend Ticket Pack also grants the ticket holder access to the inaugural League1 Ontario Women’s League2 Division Final, which will be played at Tim Hortons Field on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. ET. The winner of the final will earn the divisional title and promotion to the L1ON Championship Division, the second tier of the League1 Ontario competition pyramid.
