League1 Canada alumni to feature in April women’s internationals

The Canadian Women’s National Team have the opportunity to win silverware in the coming days as they take part in the 2024 She Believes Cup.

Canada face Brazil on Saturday, April 6 in Atlanta. The winner will advance to the final and the loser to the third-place match – both on Tuesday, April 9 – with Bev Preistman’s side to take on either USA or Japan.

Former League1 Ontario players Vanessa Gilles and Clarissa Larisey could feature, as Simcoe County Rovers co-owner Janine Beckie also returns to the team. Former North Toronto Nitros star Olivia Smith has left the squad due to injury and has been replaced by 2022 League1 BC champion Emma Regan.

Regan became the first former League1 BC player to feature for CANWNT in October, and could add to her appearance tally in the coming days.

National team regulars and Ligue1 Québec alumni Lysianne Proulx, Gabrielle Carle, and Evelyne Viens have also made the cut, as Canada embark on their third She Believes Cup tournament in four years, and continue to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Canadian U20 women’s team kick off their international friendly series in Germany on Sunday, April 7 as they step up preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Columbia in early fall.

They face the United States, before taking on their camp hosts Germany on Tuesday, April 9, with several former League1 Canada stars ready to make appearances.

The squad features a long list of players with League1 Ontario experience: Amanda Allen, Kayla Briggs, Faith Fenwick, Sofia Cortes-Browne, Noelle Henning, Jadea Collin, Zoe Markesini, Renee Watson, Thaea Mouratidis, Alanna Raimondo, Sadie Waite, Rosa Maalouf, Ella McBride, and Nyah Rose.

Mya Archibald, Clare Logan, Jeneva Hernandez Gray, Anna Hauer, and Kaylee Hunter have all featured in League1 BC since the Women’s Division was founded in 2022, and the trio of Janet Okeke, Audrey Chelsie François, and Florianne Jourde have played in Ligue1 Québec.

We are wishing all players good luck ahead of these upcoming fixtures.
