League1 Canada announces expansion to Alberta

Toronto, ON – (December 7, 2023) – League1 Canada today announced it has reached an agreement with the Alberta Soccer Association (ASA) to add League1 Alberta to its national alliance of Division III Pro-Am leagues, effective immediately.

League1 Alberta becomes the fourth Division III Pro-Am league to join League1 Canada, which was founded by Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) in March 2022 in partnership with Ontario Soccer, BC Soccer and Soccer Québec. League1 Canada aims to unify and elevate Canadian soccer at the semi-professional level by aligning such leagues as League1 Ontario, League1 BC, Ligue1 Québec and now League1 Alberta as they continue to evolve the pathway to the professional game for domestic players in their home provinces and nationwide.

As part of the agreement, the ASA will continue to oversee the daily management of League1 Alberta. League1 Alberta was founded by the ASA in 2023 and operated as an exhibition series in its inaugural year. In 2024, it will contest a full season for the first time, with both the men’s and women’s divisions featuring seven teams, up from five teams per division in 2023. The 2024 women’s division champion will be granted direct entry into the 2024 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship.
