League1 stars to represent Canada in FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup

Nineteen players with League1 Canada experience are in Jen Herst’s Canadian squad for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The Canada team will open their campaign against Nigeria on Sunday, October 19, before another two matches in the following six days, against Samoa on Wednesday and France on Saturday, after which the top two teams in the group standings will progress to the knockout stages – along with the four best third-placed finishers across the competition.

Some names in the CANW17 squad will be very familiar to League1 Ontario fans, with the likes of NDC Ontario’s Emma Reda being selected after a Women’s Premier season that saw her become the Midfielder of the Year, an MVP finalist, and a first-team All-Star.

NDC Ontario teammate Olivia Chisholm was nominated for the Women’s Premier’s Young (U20) Player of the Year award, and she is also in the squad alongside fellow second-team All-Star Melisa Kekic who scored nine goals in 18 games for NDC in 2025.

Chisholm and Kekic both have Youth Development permits in the Northern Super League, and so do Olivia Busby, Naomi Lofthouse, Bridget Mutipula, and Chloe Taylor who have all starred in either League1 Ontario, Québec, or British Columbia.

A trio of CF Montréal Academy players are in the CANW17 squad, including Mélyna Alexis, Marika Martineau, and Amy Medley. Khadijah Cissé also won Ligue1 Québec with the academy in 2023 and has been selected.

A further three players have competed for Vancouver Rise Academy (formerly Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite) in recent League1 BC seasons. Lacey Kindel scored five goals in 2025, and she links up with Kylie Sandulak and Daniela Feria-Estrada in Canada colours.

Meanwhile Mya Angus, Emma Donnelly, Molly Hale, Gabriela Istocki, and Alyssa McLeod all have experience playing for NDC Ontario and will add strength and depth in Morocco.

All of Canada’s matches will air live on TSN/RDS.

Alongside CANW17 action, the senior women’s national team is taking to the field later in October, with former League1 BC player Kaylee Hunter and former Ligue1 Québec player Florianne Jourde earning their first call-ups. Congratulations to both ladies and good luck to all League1 players and alumni on international duty in the coming weeks.
