Amid the vibrant backdrop of Langley, British Columbia, the inaugural match of the 2023 Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship commenced at the newly revitalized Willoughby Field.

This tournament anticipated the return for its second year, proudly hosted by League1 Canada in collaboration with BC Soccer. This year’s championship will once again assemble the champions from League1 BC, League1 Ontario, and League1 Québec. Adding to the excitement, a wild card entrant also joined the fray, determined by the League1 BC.

In a mesmerizing first clash of the day, it captured fans and kept them on the edge of their seats, Programme Excel Féminin (PEF) and Unity FC locked horns at Willoughby Field in British Columbia, Canada. The game started with a bang as #9, Esther Brossard of PEF fired a third-minute rocket into the back of the net, setting the tone for a high-intensity encounter.

Unity FC swiftly answered back, with Lauren Spiller netting a fantastic goal in the 11th minute, levelling the score. The first half remained evenly matched, with both teams displaying remarkable teamwork and determination. The fans were awarded multiple goals, in short succession. Sierra Bergen, #24 of Unity FC tied the game up in the 45th minute with an absolute banger! Then, within the literal last minute of extra time within the first half, #7, Megan Avery for Unity FC had one last chance from a corner kick before the referee went for the halftime whistle, the ball bounced around in the box and landed perfectly at Megan’s feet for the tap-in, this play closed out the first half, 3-2 for Unity FC.

PEF demonstrated incredible resilience at the start of the second half, storming back with #11, Lea Larouche’s explosive strike in the 60th minute, making it 3-3.

The excitement reached its pinnacle as the game neared its conclusion. Both teams exhibited exceptional goalkeeping skills, thwarting numerous attempts, but goals continued to flow, painting a picture of the captivating contest. With Unity FC ultimately losing, Esther Brossard got her hat trick as PEF went up 6-4 in the final minute of the match!
